TAE40116 Cert IV Training and Assessment

TAE40116 Cert IV Training and Assessment

According to the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015, to work as a trainer in the VET sector a trainer must hold, as a minimum, the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment from the TAE10 Training and Education Training Package or its successor – being the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment.

The TAE40110 that you already hold is still valid, but it is just not the most current qualification for your industry.

In July 2017, amendments were introduced and called the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) Amendment 2017. This change prompted an amendment to the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015, that on or after 1 July 2019 trainers and assessors must hold:

TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or its successor

or

TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and one of the following:

  1. TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills or its successor or
  2. TAELLN401A Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills

    and one of the following:

  3. TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools or its successor or
  4. TAEASS502A Design and develop assessment tools or
  5. TAEASS502B Design and develop assessment tools.

Please note:

The Unit TAEASS401B Plan assessment activities and processes has been superseded by TAEASS401 Plan assessment activities and processes and the two units are NOT equivalent due to increased assessment requirements of the new Unit.

The Unit TAEASS403B Participate in assessment validation has been superseded by TAEASS403 Participate in assessment validation and the two Units are NOT equivalent due to increased assessment requirements of the new Unit.

Although assessment requirements may have changed, the other specified units for the TAE40110 qualification have been identified as being equivalent to the units that have superseded them.

There is a new entry requirement for TAE40116.

Those entering this program must be able to demonstrate vocational competency in their proposed teaching and assessing area. Vocational competency is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience, and may include, but is not limited to, holding a relevant unit of competency or qualification.

Some students will already have one or both of the required core units for the new TAE40116.

These may have been obtained as electives under TAE40110 or as part of their study in a related Diploma program. In these cases, students will receive a credit transfer for TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools and/or TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills as part of the upgrade process.

If students hold both core units, they will have to provide the additional evidence required for TAEASS401 and TAEASS403 and meet the new entry requirements. Otherwise, they will also have to complete the relevant gap training.

Whilst it is not compulsory to acquire the new TAE40116 bear in mind that by updating you will show a commitment to currency within your field and this demonstrates continual professional development that is valued highly in training and assessment roles.
